What is sweet salt? Is it really 'sweet'?

Sweet salt (also sometimes known as the Real Salt on the US market) is a rock salt produced in North America. Sweet salt is unrefined and untreated, and it does not have any additives. Thus, our Sweet Salt is one hundred percent natural and ideal for everyday use in your dishes. It's also suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Also, due to its richness in minerals such as iron, iodine, and magnesium, in addition to its delicious taste, it is also beneficial for your health.

The significant magnesium levels in the Sweet Salt benefit your muscles and promote muscle recovery after heavier training. Besides muscle recovery, magnesium is also essential for nerve function and energy production.

Iodine is also an essential mineral for the human body but one that it cannot create itself and thus needs to be consumed through a proper diet. Iodine's crucial role in the human body is ensuring thyroid function and cognitive performance. Due to its benefits to brain activity, it also allows us to sleep better.

Last but not least, Sweet salt has high levels of iron, which is crucial to your health. Iron is essential in making red blood cells, which carry oxygen around your body. With the lack of iron, there are not enough red blood cells in your body, and as a result, it leads to tiredness and dizziness.

Sweet salt sure does have a bit of sweetness to it! It gives a nice slight sweetness to your daily dishes but don't think it tastes like sugar.

How is sweet salt used?

Sweet salt is a favorite among American chefs, as it enhances flavors without becoming too dominant in the dishes. In addition, as mentioned before, it makes the perfect all-around table salt for everyday use due to its taste and health benefits.

We recommend using Sweet Salt, especially in pasta dishes, salads, soups, sandwiches, and fresh vegetables.

Due to its gentle, sweet aftertaste, it is ideal for enhancing the flavors of sauces and condiments.

A fun recipe to try with Sweet Salt: Strawberry Gazpacho

This is a fun, different, and delicious recipe to try out this summer! Very pleasing and refreshing and is ideal for garden parties and BBQs. The trick to perfect this recipe is to use Sweet Salt, which adds a nice sweetness to the aftertaste.

What you will need (this amount makes the serving for four people) :

  • 350 grams of strawberries
  • 500 grams of ripe tomatoes
  • A tiny green pepper
  • A bit of onion (to your liking)
  • A piece of bread soaked in water
  • Sweet Salt
  • A little bit of vinegar
  • 20ml of olive oil

Instructions to make the delicious Strawberry Gazpacho:

  1. Cut the pepper in half to get rid of the seeds inside before rinsing the strawberries and the pepper.
  2. Secondly, the tomatoes should be peeled, split in half, and then chopped after being squeezed to remove the seeds. Cut out the stem portion of the tomatoes.
  3. Then, in a blender, combine the strawberries, tomatoes, onion, soaked bread, salt, and vinegar and blend until smooth. You can add some water if it seems too thick for your liking.
  4. Now add the oil, and blend once more. Once finished, add the salt and vinegar to your liking.
  5. Pour the blended mix into cups and place in the refrigerator to cool for at least an hour.

Things to keep in mind:

Only add the oil at the very end because if you add it from the start, the speed of the blades could "burn" it and turn it bitter. So, to avoid bitterness, add the oil at the very end.

Also! Strawberries are pretty acidic, and thus use caution with adding vinegar. Otherwise, you might make the gazpacho very potent and thus ruin the taste.

Enjoy! :)
